A chaotic and colorful soundscape meets with a surprisingly quiet yet fast-paced rap vocal for this new summer-soaked single from Brooklyn’s Vee Guappo.
Style-wise there’s an eedge of contemporary hip hop to the presentation and the video, though musically and production wise My Mind makes its own rules throughout, the mix taking a somewhat unorthodox route.
This multi-layered, synth and riff-soaked ambiance is a big part of that, as is the subtly mixed vocal that floats somewhere in the distance – not as the guiding light more commonly found in modern rap and pop. It makes it a little difficult to pick out the lyrics, but these follow a simple, short-lines and fun rhymes kind of pathway, so the concept isn’t integral to the completed mood in many ways.
The video is professionally shot, bright and bold in presentation, featuring performance, a flash car and some scenery from the hotter seasons.
By the end of the track, the hook and title sentiment lingers enough so to make it memorable, the chord progression and its optimism perhaps standing taller than anything else.
