While there are dashes of recognizable, contemporary hip hop in the vocal effects and the beat, this considerate core seems to stand taller than that, so from the offset you get an image of LA$ka as fairly poetic and more of a deep thinker than most.
Halfway Human break the mold beautifully with this latest release. A live show would likely see entire crowds of people under their spell and feeding off of that passion and unpredictability.
Nikol Star has a sound that feels relevant to today’s world of hip hop and RnB crossovers, but it’s also a sound and style that could well build up a collection of songs easily recognisable as unique and loaded with specific personality. You know the tone once you’ve heard it, and that makes a big difference.
A definite personal favourite from 2019 so far. A powerful track, eye-opening in many ways but also loaded with addictive good vibes that contrast cleverly with the depth of the subject matter.
Re-working the recent hit Old Town Road with a completely new angle but basically the same beat and melody, parody artist The Hairy Sun has taken on the surface level lifestyle of a homeless drug addict – adding comedy and a completely new story-line to what is a notably memorable and quickly recognizable release.
The anti-bullying song evolves to become an absolute anthem, and rather than leaving you dwelling on the difficulty, it strangely offers a sense of unity and togetherness in being so bold and artistically poignant.
The 3Mind Blight sound is quickly becoming a thing entirely of its own. Uncertainty reigns, but there’s a sense of possibility – a feeling that not knowing isn’t quite as bad as it sometimes seems. ‘It’ll be alright if I live a good life.’
