There’s a humble air of authenticity to this album that makes it a reliable and deeply appealing project. Font Leroy is not out here shouting for attention or desperate for views. Instead, he’s making music that means something to him, that he himself is a fan of, and for these reasons the entire album works perfectly.
The Khatarnaak hip hop collective sees the artist breakaway for this individual venture, he offers up a track that hits hard but with an easy to appreciate delicacy at the same time.
With everything from the crisp and clean nature of the soundscape to Aus10’s unwavering and intelligent lyricism and stylish performance, this is absolutely one of the best new hip hop tracks of 2019 so far.
Fusing relevant elements of gospel music with those from various other genres and walks of life, the track manages to encapsulate the issues at the heart of such a tragedy – in a manner that screams out for togetherness and for an end to catastrophic division.
Expect to stand back in awe at the sheer weight of contrast on this impressive new project from Anubis. Take the opening track GraveSites as a fitting example – an ambient and dreamlike backdrop floats through in stark juxtaposition with the pace and poetic complexity of the rap flow.
L.U.I has arrived with volume and self-belief, and he won’t be stopping any time soon. For the harder hip hop fans out there, the energy of this project is inspiring, motivational – it lifts you up and instills those necessary confidence levels to provoke you to get out and go for it.
Light in Life is everything the title promises and then some. A gorgeously colourful soundscape emerges, partly organic and partly rooted in the movement and mood of classic hip hop – you get a jazz-cafe vibe for the most part. On top of this, Lexik’s own vocal is equally bright and energizing.
21 year old Yung Jay is an artist and rapper based out of Anaheim, California. This is undoubtedly just the beginning, a collaborative release with a skilled producer should make for a strong starting point.
The quality is immense, the sound is unmistakable, and the bars are so consistently impressive that a single listen is far from enough to catch it all. Fans of original, genuine and smart hip hop will find this EP a pure joy to get lost within.
Fukdawrld undoubtedly gets better and better as it moves along. Numba Foe has a memorable voice that’s likely to work in his favour over time.
Not only is the song brilliantly put together, it’s fascinating, it sees the artist open up from the offset and be fully himself, and it deals with a topic that rarely gets touched upon in music and art – at least not under such a professionally impressive light.
