An album that softly breathes its insecurities & uncertainties into the room around you, creating immediately calming ambiances, yet each one with an air of concern or unsettled freedom.
“I’m okay with it because I know that it’s relatable. I’m not the only person who has dealt with this scenario. I’ve always been pretty open about who I am, but never really on this level.”
The whole thing is subtly powerful, entrancing for its sense of space and colour, and the heavy contrast between that and the tiredness and melancholy in the lyrics.
A beautiful song, lyrically refreshing, structurally simple yet subtly creative in the same instance – long-form bars intertwine with shorter fragments of ideas. Delicacy meets with grit – images of peace are contrasted by those of violence; again subtly, just prominent enough to leave a mark.
The love story is tried and tested, known by most and represented vastly in music, but in the case of (this love is) eternal, the whole thing has been given a new lease of life – a new angle, a new manner of expression.

Taking inspiration from the likes of Lil Peep, along with a more classically trip-hop-influenced aura, Dutch’s latest album is one that effectively fuses skills from his acoustic past with a deeply thoughtful and contemporary writing style – ultimately offering a strong remedy for the chaos and noise of the modern world.
Downer is an artist who drives with a sense of purpose on this latest single. Overgrow is a hard pill to swallow, but the sort that many listeners crave in times of personal turmoil and isolation.
