Tony Tedesco & Full Fathom 5 - Shoes - Stereo Stickman

Tony Tedesco & Full Fathom 5 Shoes

Featuring the additional artistic flair of Lynxxxie and Audrey-Kate Geiger, this single from Tony Tedesco & Full Fathom 5 is an incredible piece of music, writing, and performance. The opening ambiance has a certain addictive nature to it, right from the offset the soundscape appeals for its uncommon musicality – those flickers of jazz piano, that prominent double bass line. Soon after, the first leading voice to emerge offers gentle emotion, gravel, grit, and a totally hypnotic story. The way the melody has been composed allows for these long-tail lyrics to really surround you and pull you further and further into the core of the song.

For something that appears so smooth and so naturally or organically crafted, there’s a surprising level of detail within the lyrics that offers a definite contrast with the musicianship elsewhere. Having said that though, the instrumental elements are indeed minimal to a certain extent, but the performances throughout are notably complex and incredibly impressive at every step. That word addictive comes to mind because the song creates around you a totally absorbing moment of escapism. Your mind can’t wander much further than the realms of what’s presented, and you won’t generally find that it wants to.

The building bricks that make up the track may be simple or minimalist in nature, but there is so much that captivates, and there are so many changes, so many instances of contrast, to keep you captivated throughout. This spans across the instrumental set-up and through into the variation between voices. It feels like there are real characters at work, almost like you’re witnessing a scene from a movie. The music, the chords and notes chosen to create it, have a mildly melancholic yet seductive sense of care-free progression about them. The observational lyrics and the music work beautifully in unison to allow you to be completely swept away by the song. I’m a fan.
