speakea𝟝y CIRCLES

-

Fusing ambient backdrops with soulful vocals and long-form melodic story-telling, the new EP from speakea𝟝y lays out a solid and impressive foundation for an artist with a clear passion and skill for the art form.

As a producer, speakea𝟝y describes his music as ‘angsty millennial type beats’. Perhaps this is the perfect way to define his approach, but there’s far more to the sound and experience of this project than a simple four-word phrase can express. Depth and substance play a huge part, lyrically and in terms of the emotion and mood that each soundscape presents you with.

Mercury is an early stand out and a strong example of all of this. The three-minute-twenty composition features extensive audio detail, layers and structure, melody and rap, all resulting in something that feels intentional and far bigger than its average time-span should allow.

Elsewhere on the album, stunning vocals and an array of characters help create dynamic and hold your interest; though the musicality alone moves beautifully towards that same goal. Venus, for example, follows on as the third song and creates a blissfully new and ambiently dreamlike aura that works gorgeously where it is. At the same time, it clearly belongs within this concept and this blanket of ideas that is CIRCLES. These threads of individuality continue throughout, the producer keeping things eclectic, energy and colour wise, but still allowing these familiar dashes of ‘knowing’ that help you stay connected and involved right the way through.

In many ways, this feels like a greatest hits collection – a ‘best of’ that should have already been heard by the majority of modern music fans. It’s easy to lose yourself in this playlist, or indeed to share in it with those who mean the most to you.

The space theme throughout the titles, the social commentary ongoing within, the clever connections between the two plus certain intricacies in each composition, all keeps that speakea𝟝y level of identity at the forefront; and this is a name worthy knowing. Professionalism meets with creativity and heart in a powerful way. A pleasure to listen through.
