Ms. Mohammed Alibi

Ms. Mohammed’s new single Alibi makes for pretty stunning start to the week. Fusing a thick and distorted musical backdrop with an exotic and delicately powerful leading vocal melody, the song comes through with a hypnotic rhythm and a mellow tone that surround you in atmospheric ambiance.

Creativity is the key these days in such a free-flowing, ever expanding world of music, and Ms. Mohammed’s sound is categorically unique in its approach to expression and musical artistry. Much more than this though, rather than veering off in some unknown, ineffective direction, simply to gather a crowd, the song and the music have been masterfully crafted and performed so as to really utilise those hypnotic and mesmerising qualities in the way that all great music must. And it works.

The whole thing is quite simple in construction – two melodies, a laid back chord progression, a consistent level of energy – not rising or falling too intensely at any point. However, there’s an air of something else about it; the unexpected instrumental choices, the leading vocal performance, the concept. The chemistry has it just right, and the output makes for a truly enjoyable and captivating few minutes of audio escapism.

Lyrically, the song appears as incredibly mysterious and intriguing, and this works brilliantly among such a compelling backdrop. The verses touch on certain ideas, evoking a sense of urgency – the time has come.. there’s no escape – all of which is frequently broken up by that instantly memorably vocal choir or hook, which is, in many ways, the driving force and signature sound of the whole release. The accompanying video adds to the intrigue of the whole piece in a huge way, amplifying the artistry of the project and really showcasing Ms. Mohammed as a creatively free and fearless individual. It’s a superb release and a great introduction to the singer and songwriter – hopefully there’s a lot more to come.
