Glorybots - Nomad - Stereo Stickman

Glorybots Nomad

-

The return of Glorybots this year takes the form of an emotional yet still cinematic journey, into which the leading singer pours soulful poetry – weaving around you a beautifully ambient blanket of warmth. This is a personal favourite from Glorybots to date, and an easy song to escape within.

What works about this is that structurally there are these two equally unpredictable yet satisfying sections. The initial moments, the verses, the first vocal – this all presents a certain sense of anticipation or gradually rising intensity. Then you get the second section, the higher vocal line, the more minimal and resolved gathering of notes – this moment feels like the peak, the light at the end of the tunnel. And meanwhile, as this songwriting set-up captures your affection, the soundscape too works in unison with the varying ideas – the music moves from quiet and spacious, to vibrant and full; filling the room with immense energy and power.

The alternative flame burns brightly on this single. The latter half sees the piece explode into an artistic whirlwind of beautiful chaos. Think Radiohead but with a mildly shoe-gaze-like aura and a few flickers of contemporary creative freedom. There’s an organic undertone to much of it – you can visualize the live show, but at the same time, you can appreciate the simple scream of passion that is the song and this very recording. It feels like a series of moments cemented in time.

Nomad is a defiantly impressive song – one that quickly distracts you from the noise of the world. The Glorybots sound is becoming quite unmistakable with each new release that emerges. And it’s not some simple, quirky trait that gives it this quality – it’s something bigger, something within the writing and the perspective; which is likely to, hopefully, result in longevity within the scene.
