Electric Radio Kings Grabbing at a Distant Star

-

Beginning with a simple yet effective bass line, followed up by an addictive and organic drum line, the realness continues to grow as the sound and the song that is Grabbing at a Distant Star emerges.

The song itself first toys with the idea of being a hard rock or metal release – the leading vocalist has the gravel and grit required to carry off that kind of energy. What you really get though, is a stylish and melodic piece of rock and roll, a hopeful concept, and an overall feeling of warmth and togetherness. The raw energy of rock and roll is alive and well, but this song has a certain smoothness and delicacy that contrasts well with the weight of the drum line and the overall high energy of the soundscape. It makes for something distinct and characterful. The band have a sound that is slightly nostalgic, yet that approaches modern rock and songwriting in a fresh and carefree way.

This particular single grows on you more and more each time you listen. That opening bass-line is a simple touch of brilliance, you recognise the song in an instant once you’ve heard it, and the opening line about blowing out the candles on a birthday cake adds hugely to this effect. There’s a poetic and rhythmic nature to the lyricism, each line is a stand alone statement or idea, provided in short, brief snippets – all of which lead you confidently towards that smooth and addictive hook section. As mentioned, the whole thing feels inspiring and joyful, a little anti-rock in some ways, but refreshing and important. We need more music like this. The grit and passion remains, without doubt, but there’s also a feeling of possibility, of a bright future ahead, and that’s greatly valuable.
