Dreamstate - Two Hands - Stereo Stickman

Dreamstate Two Hands

-

A few minimalist layers start this heartfelt track up from Dreamstate – introducing immediately a band who need no fancy effects or filler to present their creativity or perform. This raw beginning is beautiful, not acoustic but soaked in a simple sense of contemporary audio expression.

From the offset you’re drawn in by and subsequently connected to the depth and gentleness of the leading voice. As the track progresses, a few additional elements come into play that help build a sense of rising passion and warmth. The song itself leans in a notably soulful direction as things intensify, but this is primarily down to the development of the melody and the sheer effortless emotion and movement of that vocal. An easy beat and plenty of space, a hint of reverb, a flicker of guitar and synth later on – this is all that surrounds the writing and the performance for the most part.

You get a trip-hop inspired vibe from the soundscape, delicate and dreamlike – epic in the vastness it paints around you. Within this, these ideas – this outpouring of honesty and vulnerability – it all connects in an easy to relate to and appreciate manner. The song declares and encourages a state of oneness and feeling safe enough to let your guard down. You can hear this in the whole performance, and in the drop into weight during the latter half – not merely in the lyrics; far from it. The drop is stunning, the music is still fairly quiet and thoughtful, but every choice made supports and enhances the central sentiment gorgeously. That distant guitar line furthers the sense of soul as the hook hits yet again, and then as things quiet down – your mood shifts back with it, leaving you feeling settled and inspired, calmed.

Two Hands is a wonderful song that stands tall on the strength of its own concept and the way the band have worked hard to highlight this in a subtle but stunning manner. Further seductive vocals and guitar work pour through on the track Perfume – making the EP in full one you don’t want to miss out on.
